There are only a few worthwhile article directory sites that actually get traffic and can send YOU traffic. Automatic submission sites and services are not worth it and can be hurtful to your website rankings - SEO and time wise.
I used to use up to 10 article sites years ago, but I have learned that ezinearticles is the best and largest one. Many of the others are not ranked well by Google and they do not manually approve articles. Auto approved sites will get you know traffic and may even hurt your ranking since the link is coming from a low quality submission site.
Writing articles to promote your business and website is a great and free useful traffic method, but just writing an article will not do the trick - even on a large site like ezine. You have to know how to keyword your article, phrase it correctly, spacing, links, title and other things to GET YOUR ARTICLE NOTICED.
That is an area I am very good at. I have been writing articles online since for almost 15 years. I am listed as a Platinum Author on ezine and have written SEO friendly, high visited articles for my own sites and promotions and I have written many for clients.
